Pryor
is a singer-songwriter from Charlotte,
NC who has been captivating audiences with her music and her soulful interpretations.
It is difficult to put Pryor’s music into one category, although country
is her first love. Her lyrics combined with her sultry, alto voice
create a style that is
alluring and simply her own.
Her music paints a broad spectrum of emotions, from heartache to sassiness.
Pryor
has been described as a singer who, “brings an unbelievable voice and style to
every song she sings.” As with any new artist, you try to compare
Pryor to others, but it’s not easy. You hear some Patsy Cline and lots of
others, but her music hits you with its power and subtlety. “It may bother
some artists to be compared to others, but I take it as a compliment. I
just try to be myself, and let my music speak for itself," said Pryor.
Pryor grew up in a musical
family. Her dad started out as a professional musician, and music was
always a part of her childhood. "I was exposed to all types of music
growing up including the music written by my dad and his brother. Their
music has been a big influence on me."
Her
first real interest in music began when she lived in Texas as a young girl. While most
of her friends were listening to the music of the day,
Pryor was getting rooted in Hank, Patsy, Tammy and the modern country
singers. The Texas
influence is clearly recognizable in her musical style, her songwriting and
selection of material.
Pryor
has been living in Charlotte, NC for over ten years and it is there where she
truly began to touch listeners with her smooth and engaging style, her powerful,
rich voice and a stunning presence. She has been performing
throughout the Southeast and has been
active in sharing her talents. On a lark Pryor entered a national country talent
contest in 2000, and she was named Top New Country Performer in the Carolinas.
More recently Pryor enjoys sharing her music with her second grade
students and a few older fans as well.
Pryor has released
four
independent CDs. Her latest,
"On Your Way Home," will be released in August of 2007. The title track reveals her most mature sound to date.
The rest of the CD follows the same soulful sound, but adds some more variety
with songs like, "Jesus on a Greyhound" and "Walkin Away." The CD was
produced by Pryor and her dad, Bob Dawson
Her previous CDs are
“It’s a Girl Thing,”
“I’ve
Moved On” and “Someday Soon”.
"I love music, but I
have lots of other interests, too. Music is my passion, but who knows?
Maybe in 40 years I will be doing something entirely different. But I'll
probably still be kicking back and singing. It's what I love to do."
